How to edit and delete a voided checkbook transaction

If you void a checkbook transaction, the system will grey out the original transaction and create a reversing checkbook entry on the date the void occurred. Based on the date of the reversing entry, this can cause a discrepancy in reporting if the two entries don't fall within the same reporting period.

Voided bank transactions can not be edited or deleted from the Banking tab. However, the best way to fix the mistake is to edit both dates for the original and reversing entry.

To edit the date of a voided checkbook transactions:

  • Navigate to Settings > Administrative > Checkbook Transactions
  • Set your Start Date to the date the first transaction occurred and your End Date to the date of your last bank transaction
  • Locate the original and reversing entry and edit the dates to fall on the same date
  • To edit the transaction date, click the pencil icon on the right side of the line, adjust your date and click "Update".

Note: Be sure both the original and reversing entry is set to the same date. This will cause an offsetting entry with a 0 balance on both the cash account and the distribution account. The date does not matter as long as they are both the same.

Note: Voided AR Deposits can NOT be edited. If a voided AR Deposit is throwing off your financial statements, a reversing entry will be required. View How to create reversing entries for a voided AR deposit.
